Where Gratitude Meets Community

11/27/2025

Picture
As Thanksgiving settles over Fishers and the greater Indianapolis area, it feels like the right moment to pause and reflect on the people and places that make this community feel like home. Every street, every neighborhood, and every family has its own story, and together they create the energy that makes Central Indiana such a special place to live. For us at Burris Realty Group, this time of year is less about transactions and more about relationships. It is a chance to recognize the trust we are given and the growth that trust makes possible.

This year has brought meaningful change to the region. Fishers continues to welcome new families. Carmel and Westfield have expanded their trail networks and community spaces. Noblesville has strengthened its local business scene. AND across the Indianapolis metro, you can feel a shared momentum as people invest in both their homes and their neighborhoods! Real estate plays a role in that story, but the heart of it is always the people who make these communities thrive.

Within BRG, this year has been full of milestones. We have watched clients step into their first homes, celebrated families finding new chapters in new spaces, and supported homeowners through important transitions. Each closing, referral, and conversation has reminded us why we do this work. Behind every set of keys is a family building a life, a dream taking shape, or a long term goal finally becoming real. Those moments matter, and we are grateful to be invited into them.

Clay shared a reflection this week that captures the spirit of the season and the heart behind our team:

“As this year winds down, I’ve found myself thinking about how much has changed since my wife and I moved to Fishers and how grateful I am for the people who’ve been part of that journey. My business has grown in new ways this year, our city continues to evolve, and the relationships I’ve built with clients, friends, and partners have been the highlight of it all.

Every conversation, every closing, every referral, and every chance to help someone in a meaningful moment has shaped the year in the best possible direction. I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished and even more thankful for the trust and support that made each milestone possible.

To everyone who allowed me to guide them through buying or selling, who reached out for advice, or who simply cheered me on, thank you. This year has been full of growth, and none of it happens without the community around me.

Here’s to carrying that momentum forward and staying focused on connection, service, and gratitude as we head into a new year.”

His words resonate because they reflect the experiences of so many people who call Hamilton County home. Growth is not just something that happens in a housing market. Growth happens in families, friendships, businesses, and communities. It happens when neighbors look out for one another, when local businesses support local events, when people choose to stay rooted here in Indiana because of the life they are building. Real estate is simply the backdrop. The real story is the people.

This week gives all of us a reminder of how important connection truly is. For some, that connection looks like gathering around a table with family. For others, it means checking in on a neighbor or supporting a local bakery or restaurant. For us, it means showing gratitude to the clients and partners who allow Burris Realty Group to serve this community year after year. The work we do is made meaningful by the people we meet along the way, and we do not take that for granted.

As we look toward a new year, our hope is simple. We want to continue showing up with care, continue earning your trust, and continue being part of the everyday moments that shape your journey as a homeowner. Central Indiana is growing in wonderful ways and we are honored to grow alongside it.

From all of us at Burris Realty Group, we wish you a warm and memorable Thanksgiving season. Thank you for being part of our story and for letting us be part of yours.

Where to Find the Best Thanksgiving Pies Around Indianapolis

11/20/2025

Picture
Thanksgiving in Central Indiana just feels right when there is a homemade pie on the table, the kind baked in a local kitchen, wrapped in a warm box, and picked up from someone who knows your name when you walk through the door. Across Indianapolis, Carmel, Fishers, Noblesville, Westfield, and Zionsville, small bakeries are working early mornings and long days to help families carry on their holiday traditions.

If you are hoping to serve a locally baked pie this year, here are a few hometown spots that pour a lot of care into every crust.

Taylor’s Bakery in Indianapolis and Fishers
Taylor’s Bakery has been part of Indy holidays for generations. Their pie case fills up each November with pumpkin, pecan, sugar cream, apple, cherry, and other familiar favorites. What people love most is the feeling of walking in. Warm ovens going, staff buzzing, families grabbing their preorders before the big day.

If you are in Indianapolis or Fishers, Taylor’s is one of those reliable places that feels like part of the season.

Why locals love it:
  • Reliable holiday classics
  • Friendly and efficient pickup
  • A long history in Indianapolis

My Sugar Pie in Zionsville
Tucked just off Main Street in Zionsville, My Sugar Pie is known for its cozy storefront and handmade pies that taste like they came straight from a family recipe card. They offer everything from sugar cream, a true Hoosier staple, to fruit, berry, seasonal, and specialty pies.

People visit for the flavor, but they stay loyal because of the personal touch. The cheerful greetings, the from scratch baking, and the joy of supporting a small local shop.

Why locals love it:
  • More than 50 rotating flavors
  • Handmade crusts and warm small business charm
  • A favorite for families in Zionsville, Carmel, and Westfield

Pots and Pans Pie Co. in Indianapolis
In the South Broad Ripple area, Pots and Pans Pie Co. brings creativity to both sweet and savory pies. Their Thanksgiving menu often includes thoughtful twists on classics like pumpkin, maple pecan, and chocolate varieties. They are also known for their seasonal savory pies, including a Thanksgiving dinner pot pie that regularly sells out.

This is a fun option for hosts who want something traditional and something unique on the dessert table.

Why locals love it:
  • Handmade pies with quality ingredients
  • Creative seasonal flavors
  • A welcoming, woman owned neighborhood spot

Supporting the Bakers Who Make the Season Special
One of the best parts of choosing a local bakery is knowing your purchase supports the people who make our community feel like home. As Clay often says, supporting small businesses is personal for him, especially around the holidays.

“As someone who runs a few small businesses myself, I love any chance to support other local spots, and Thanksgiving feels like the perfect time to do it. That is why our team partners with a hometown favorite each year for our BRG Pie Giveaway to say thanks to the folks who support what we do. If you are on the hunt for a great locally baked pie this season, you can buy or sell a home with me and I will bring you a pie each year or just reach out and I will put you in touch with the baker that we use.”

Tips for Planning Your Thanksgiving Pie Pickup
  • Order early. Small bakeries often close preorders a week or more before the holiday.
  • Choose a mix of flavors. A pumpkin and a fruit pie will make almost everyone happy.
  • Ask for serving or reheating tips. Some pies shine warmed up. Others are best at room temperature.
  • Try one new spot. Even adding one new bakery to your list supports a local maker.
  • Pick up during slower hours for a smoother experience.

A Warm Thanksgiving Wish
However you celebrate, we hope your home is filled with good food, warm company, and a pie that brings everyone to the table. Wishing you and your family a wonderful Thanksgiving season!

Home Projects Worth Tackling Before Winter Hits in Indianapolis

11/13/2025

Picture
As cooler air settles into Central Indiana, homeowners across Carmel, Fishers, Noblesville, and the greater Indianapolis area are turning their attention indoors. Before the first hard freeze arrives, a few smart home projects can help protect your investment, lower energy costs, and make your home more comfortable all winter long.

Staying Ahead of the Season
Indiana winters can be unpredictable. One day is brisk, the next is covered in snow. Taking time now to handle a short list of maintenance tasks can prevent costly surprises later. Simple things like cleaning gutters, tuning up your furnace, and sealing up drafty spots are easy to overlook, but they make a big difference when the temperature drops.

These projects are not just about staying warm. They are about protecting the systems and structures that keep your home running smoothly. With a weekend or two of effort, you can be ready for the season ahead and relax knowing your home is prepared.

Why Seasonal Upkeep Matters
Preventive care saves money and reduces stress. A furnace that runs efficiently uses less energy, a clean gutter system prevents water damage, and a well-sealed home holds in heat. For homeowners planning to move in 2026, this kind of regular upkeep also helps your property hold its value and stand out to future buyers.

For those planning to stay, there is peace of mind in knowing your home will handle winter without surprises. As we often say at Burris Realty Group, a well-cared-for home does not just perform better, it feels better.

Clay Burris, founder of Burris Realty Group, shares this reminder for local homeowners:

“A little prep now can make a big difference in keeping your home safe, warm, and running smoothly all winter. From furnace tune-ups to sealing drafts and cleaning gutters, these small steps help protect both your investment and your family’s comfort. And if you need a hand, I’ve got a great list of trusted local pros who can help with any of these projects.”

Projects Worth Your Weekend
  • Schedule a furnace tune-up. Have a professional check your system before the first deep freeze. Replace filters, confirm airflow, and ensure carbon monoxide levels are safe. A well-tuned furnace is more efficient and reliable.
  • Clean gutters and downspouts. Remove leaves and debris so melting snow can drain properly. This helps prevent ice dams, roof leaks, and foundation issues during freeze-thaw cycles.
  • Seal drafts and add weatherstripping. Walk through your home and feel for cool air near windows and doors. A few rolls of weatherstripping or caulk can save energy and improve comfort almost immediately.
  • Inspect the fireplace and chimney. Schedule a sweep or inspection before lighting the first fire. Make sure dampers work properly and that your chimney cap is secure against birds or debris.
  • Protect exterior plumbing. Disconnect hoses, drain spigots, and insulate exposed pipes in garages or crawl spaces. This simple step helps avoid frozen-pipe headaches.
  • Check insulation and attic ventilation. Even insulation coverage and clear vents help prevent ice dams, which are a common issue in older Hamilton County homes.
  • Test safety devices. Replace batteries in smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and make sure fire extinguishers are up to date.

Quick Data at a Glance
  • Energy savings: Sealing drafts and changing furnace filters can lower heating costs by up to 10 to 15 percent.
  • Best timing: Late fall, before Thanksgiving, offers easier scheduling with HVAC and chimney professionals.
  • Local insight: Homes that show care through simple maintenance tasks tend to attract more attention and confidence from future buyers.

Winter in Indiana can be long, but a little preparation now means more comfort and fewer worries later. Whether you are in Carmel, Fishers, or right in the heart of Indianapolis, staying ahead of seasonal upkeep is one of the best ways to protect your home and enjoy the colder months with confidence.

Indianapolis Housing Market Check-In: What Homeowners Should Know Before Year-End

11/6/2025

Picture
As we head into the final stretch of the year, many Indianapolis-area homeowners are wondering how the housing market is shaping up and what it means for their plans. Whether you live in Fishers, Carmel, or anywhere across the metro, this is the perfect time to take stock of trends, home values, and what’s ahead for 2026 movers.

Market Snapshot in Indianapolis and the Greater Indianapolis Area
This fall has brought a steady rhythm to the Indianapolis real estate market. After a few years of rapid shifts, we are seeing a return to balance. Inventory has increased slightly compared to last year, giving buyers more options while keeping sellers competitive. Median home prices remain firm across Marion and Hamilton counties, with Fishers and Carmel continuing to show strong demand for well-maintained homes in desirable school districts.

Days on market have lengthened a bit, which is an expected sign of normalization, but homes that are priced right and well-prepared are still finding the right buyers. Mortgage rates have moderated slightly, helping maintain steady activity even as we move into the quieter winter months. Overall, it is a healthy, sustainable pace that supports both sides of the table.

Why It Matters for Homeowners
For current homeowners, especially those eyeing a move in 2026, this shift toward stability is a positive sign. You can plan your next step with greater confidence, knowing that Indy’s housing values are holding steady. If you are staying put for now, this is also a good moment to check your home’s equity and consider small updates that can boost long-term value.

As the holidays approach, think of this season as a reset. It is a chance to organize, refresh your space, and prepare for what is next. Whether that means refinancing, tackling pre-listing projects, or simply watching how your neighborhood performs, small actions today can pay off when you are ready to make a move.

Clay Burris, founder of Burris Realty Group, offers this perspective on the local market:

“Even with more homes on the market and longer days to sell, the Indianapolis housing scene remains steady and strong. We’re simply returning to a more balanced, pre-pandemic pace where buyers and sellers have room to make thoughtful moves. Prices are holding firm across most of the metro area, and the winter season brings a window of opportunity for those serious about making a change before the spring rush.”

Clay’s insight highlights what many homeowners are feeling: reassurance. The Indianapolis market is not cooling off; it is simply catching its breath. That means opportunity for those who plan ahead and act strategically.

Practical Next Steps for Indianapolis Homeowners
Here are a few smart moves to consider as the year winds down:
  1. Review your home’s current value. Get an updated market analysis to see how your property compares to others nearby.
  2. Plan early if you are targeting a 2026 move. Use the next year to update finishes, improve curb appeal, and track buyer trends.
  3. Stay informed about mortgage shifts. Small rate changes can impact timing, so keeping an eye on lending trends helps you stay ready.
  4. Prepare your home for winter. Seal drafts, service your furnace, and protect pipes to avoid costly surprises.
  5. Consult a trusted local expert. A quick conversation can help clarify your home’s position in today’s market.

Quick Data at a Glance
  • Inventory trend: Up slightly year-over-year
  • Median sale price: Holding steady across most neighborhoods
  • Days on market: Gradually increasing
  • Buyer demand: Stable, with motivated winter buyers active

Indianapolis and its surrounding communities continue to show resilience and opportunity as 2025 approaches.
