The holiday season has officially arrived in Indianapolis, and whether you’re in Fishers, Carmel, Indianapolis, Noblesville, Westfield, or Zionsville, this is the time of year when the whole area starts to sparkle! Families bundle up, neighborhoods glow, and familiar traditions return to brighten even the coldest evenings.
Clay shared something this week that puts it perfectly: “The holiday season tends to bring cold weather, which I don't care for, but I love how Indy seems to glow a little brighter this time of year! My family looks forward to this season because it gives us an excuse to revisit some of our favorite traditions. Christmas at the Zoo is always a hit, and there's something magical about wandering through the Winterlights at Newfields. We also make a point to drive through the Christmas Night of Lights at the State Fairgrounds, which seems to get better every year. If you're looking for a little extra holiday cheer, this is the perfect time to explore some of the incredible light displays and family-friendly events around town. Whether you stick to familiar favorites or try somewhere new, I hope you find a spot that helps your season shine!” Inspired by that sentiment, here’s a roundup of some of the brightest and most beloved holiday light displays across the Indianapolis area. Winterlights at Newfields An Indy classic for good reason. The glowing pathways, colorful tunnels, and warm treats make this one of the most immersive holiday experiences in the city. It’s a favorite for both families and date nights. Christmas at the Zoo A magical blend of wildlife and winter cheer. The lights feel extra special against the nighttime backdrop of the zoo, and kids love the chance to explore after dark. Christmas Night of Lights at the Indiana State Fairgrounds Perfect for cold nights, this drive-through show is synchronized to music and grows more impressive each year. It’s cozy, easy, and always crowd-pleasing. Reynolds Lights in Fishers A Hamilton County staple, the free outdoor display at Reynolds Farm Equipment is bright, bold, and beloved. It’s an easy weeknight outing that never disappoints. Carmel Christkindlmarkt Not just lights but a whole European-style holiday atmosphere. From the skating to the food to the artisan vendors, this market is an annual favorite for families all around the north side. Nickel Plate Express: Reindeer Ride A nostalgic, festive train ride departing from Noblesville. Kids love the treats and décor, and it’s a unique way to enjoy the season. Westfield in Lights A charming community celebration complete with vendors, performances, and glowing décor. It’s a lovely way to kick off the season close to home. Zionsville’s Christmas in the Village Brick streets, twinkle lights, carriage rides, and small-town magic. Zionsville transforms into a holiday postcard each December. The holidays have a special way of slowing us down and reminding us to soak in simple moments - a warm drink at a market, a favorite light display, or the familiar route your family always drives this time of year. However you celebrate, we hope you find places and traditions that bring light to your season!
